BWG claims it’s owed $18M in dump compensation

Noted at BWG council meetings

There was a motion put forth by Deputy Mayor Dennis Roughley at the December 1 Bradford West Gwillimbury council meeting stating that whereas in 1990 Simcoe County agreed to purchase and be responsible for County area Municipalities’ landfill sites and transfer stations and that BWG is a municipality that hasn’t been fully compensated, that the Simcoe County Waste Management strategy steering committee include in its deliberations a review and strategy to compensate BWG and other areas for the $18 million owing of the $27 million agreed to. This might explain White and Roughley’s pro-Dump Site 41 stance.
On Tuesday (December 9) there was a long presentation about a “Holland Marsh Agricultural Impact Study.” Councillors agreed that no use for the Holland Marsh in BWG should ever be put in place other than farming.

Wow..no wonder they’re mad at SC! I wonder who else they owe money to?
It should be interesting to see what the WMS Steering Committee does about that at their next meeting on Dec 16.

  2. Charlie Renaud says:

Let me understand this. You mean that SC purchased BWG Dumpsites, but hasn’t fully paid for them yet? So, make monthly payments.

  3. Georgy says:

What? There should be no other use for the Holland Marsh other than farming?
I’m hoping you’re working along side with the Children of the Greenbelt and other groups opposing the building of a Peaker Plant in the Holland Marsh area. This is another dumbass move by the government and BWG if they allow it to go through. This Peaker Plant is set to be built on or about December of 2011. Like Dumpsite 41, this idiotic idea needs to be kiboshed. NOW!!!
