Industry can and will make the necessary changes to eliminate waste. These positive changes will come more quickly if we support those doing the right thing and stop buying from the others.

I wrote to Gatorade and sent them the following comments:

I would like to congratulate you for coming out with a 100% compostable bag for your SunChips. That is awesome!

However, you could make an even bigger impact on the environment by bottling your Gatorade, Pepsi, Aquafina etc in reusable glass bottles or aluminum cans..instead of those horrible toxic plastic bottles that are littering our landscape and poisoning our bodies.

Be a leader to eliminate plastic bottles and put a refund deposit on your drink containers so they will be returned to you for recycling and reuse!

How about each time we visit a restaurant or take out, we ask for our doggie-bags or take out wrapped in aluminum foil (recyclable) & speak to them about replacing the styrofoam containers with recyclable material? While we’re at it, we could contact the head offices of all the fast-food or chain restaurants with the same request.

That’s a great idea about the aluminum foil for take out. The Chinese restaurants have been doing that for years. They have foil containers with a paper lid!

I went through a McDonalds drive-through the other day and ordered a coffee to be put in my mug. When I got to the window and went to hand them my clean mug, they wanted to hand me a paper cup with the coffee. I said I don’t want a paper cup because I’m trying to reduce waste. The girl and then the supervisor said they’re not allowed to accept mugs because they’re afraid of contamination! I was so mad I told them to stick it and that I would never come to McDonalds again. I never eat there..but I did like their coffee.

McDonalds is a major producer of garbage and they need to be forced to change their ways with the EPR!
