ELMVALE – Around 80 people were out on Tiny Concession 2 and Dawsons Road today, carrying on the vigil to protect the water. More were in the protest camp – the entrance of which is now covered with tarps to prevent police from video-taping the people inside, as has been their practice several times a day, from morning into night. Many people drive by during the day, signalling support.
At around 7 a.m. Rob McCullough, Simcoe County manager of environmental services, arrives at Gate 2 with a number of workers’ vehicles following him, McCullough walks towards the gate where he is met by John Hawk of Beausoleil First Nation, drumming and singing. McCullough backs away.
“Take me away, 10 more will come,” Hawk says as the police surveillance van drives by. “Take 10 away, 100 more will come.”
After about 15 minutes the workers turn their vehicles around and leave. At around 8, about 10 gravel trucks belonging to various companies arrive and park in a line along the baseline. A driver tells one of our supporters they have been ordered to come to work by Simcoe County.
At 9:30, Brad Calverley of the Sheriff’s Office arrives and reads the injunction at all three gates, then asks if people are going to leave. He gets no reply and when people don’t leave, he says he will be handing the matter over to the OPP.
Someone points out that the notices posted on the gates are in smaller lettering than the 4 inches ordered by the judge, and the order is stapled in such a way that only the top page can be read. Calverley says that is going to be addressed
The rain starts pouring harder than ever. At noon, McCullough and two other Simcoe County employees arrive with notices lettered 4 inches high, which they hang on the gates. The trucks lined up on the baseline have gone.
Check out Site 41 discussion with Ray Millar and others on the Lake Ontario Waterkeeper podcast. http://www.waterkeeper.ca/2009/07/22/dump-site-41-july-2-2009/ Waterkeepers Mark Mattson and Krystyn Tully say that they are receiving more phonecalls and emails about Site 41 than any other issue in the province. This is a movement that is growing by the day.

You guys truly ROCK! Keep it up…..we will see you all on Saturday!
The Sheriff did not read the interim injunction at the Dawson Road entrance as the protestors were all in the wheat field across the road from the entrance gate to Site 41.
Great Web site. Like the days events posted. For us who can’t be there its a great way to be up-dated.
Great Job.
Keep up the good work everyone. I’ll be joining you tomorrow!
Is there any truth to the rumour that Saturday’s protest is being moved to Perkinsfield?
Shoulder to Shoulder. Stay strong. Sending support from California and beyond.
