We did it! Today Simcoe County Council voted 22-10, a weighted voted of 83-39 on a motion in favour of a one-year moratorium, put forward by Tiny Township Mayor Peggy Breckenridge and seconded by New Tecumseth Mayor Mike MacEachern. “It was a miracle of coming together,” said Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians.
“All your hard work paid off,” Anne Ritchie Nahuis told jubilant supporters at the county administration centre in Midhurst.
“Thank you to everybody for standing with the First Nations people to stop this – I’m very very pleased,” said Vicki Monague of Beausoleil Island First Nation.
Council voted to drop the claim for damages against Monague and Ritchie Nahuis.
Adjala-Tosorontio Deputy Mayor Doug Little will be proposing a motion to the September meeting of county council to permanently close down Dump Site 41.

Wonderful!!!!! Everybody let’s stick together and make sure this is ended once and for all. Let’s ake sure that thos who we entrusted with power will never again be able to have it again. Let’s make sure noit only they but those who supported them. Let’s make sure that a full Forensic Audit of County finances is going to happen. Let’s work to have a full Judicial Inquiry of Guergis and County management. Let’s work together to rid the stink from County government. The battle may be over but the war against corruption, nepetism and backroom dealings is only begining. This behaviour is not just a County problem but is also happening in every municipality in the County. Stick with this folks and let’s clean house once and for all so that what has been going on will never be allowed again.

How can we begin to thank the hundreds who put so much effort into this whole campaign. For too long we remained ill-informed and unaware. Shame on us all if we stop our efforts now.

Congratulations to all involved. This certainly is a sigh of relief. Now the work begins to get the calibrated computer model released to the public, along with the modflow data. Hopefully when this info gets in the hands of an independent engineer, Site 41 will never see the light of day.
